Dragon's Den Investor, Lady Chanelle McCoy, helps Irish students go for gold in global STEM competitionDragon’s Den Investor, Chanelle McCoy, helps Irish students go for gold in global STEM competition

The Victorum Racing team from St. Brigid’s College in Loughrea, Co. Galway were named F1 in Schools National Champions last March. They overcame stiff opposition from schools and colleges all over Ireland and will now be representing Ireland at the F1 in Schools world final in Kuala Lumpar next September. The F1 in Schools World Final is widely regarded as the premier global competition for second level students and there will be teams from almost 50 countries competing at this years final.

In this multi-disciplinary challenge teams of students deploy CAD/CAM software to collaborate, design, analyse, manufacture, test, and then race miniature CO2 powered F1 cars. Teams must raise sponsorship and manage budgets to fund research, travel and accommodation. The challenge inspires students to use IT to learn about physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacture, branding, graphics, sponsorship, marketing, leadership/teamwork, media skills and financial strategy, and apply them in a practical, imaginative, competitive and exciting way. The challenge is a unique global platform for the promotion of Formula One and partners to a youth market.

Victorum Racing, with the help of Chanelle McCoy, Director of Chanelle Medical, are determined to win gold for Ireland at this years final which will run in conjunction with the Malaysian Grand Prix in Kuala Lumpur from September 29th to October 1st. The competition itself will run for a week prior to the Grand Prix, and the competitors will then be guests of the Malaysian Grand Prix for the race weekend.

Since becoming National Champions, Victorum Racing have been working extremely hard on their preparations for the world final. The teams goal is to show the world that Ireland’s young people are able to lead the way for engineering, science and innovative thinking, and they are determined to be crowned F1 in Schools World Champions for 2017! “We firmly believe that we have the drive, determination and ability to win gold for Ireland at the world finals” says team captain Ruth Conway, “and we are delighted to have the guidance and support of Lady McCoy on this amazing journey”.

A major feature of the F1 in Schools competition is that each team must self finance the entire cost of their world final bid, and enlisting the support of a Dragon’s Den investor to help prepare their pitch to potential investors is proving very useful for the team.

“It is an absolute pleasure to be able to help this super group of young people, it’s great to see young Irish students excel on the world stage in science, engneering and business disciplines, and I’m sure they will do Ireland proud at the world finals”. (Chanelle McCoy)

For more information on Victorum racing and their activities you can view their Facebook: Victorum Racing and Twitter: @VictorumRacing to keep up to speed.

All team contacts can be made through victorumracingteam@gmail.com.
