Loughrea Musical Society announce A Night at the Races

‘A Night at The Races’ will take place in Charlies Bar, Main Street, Loughrea, on April 7th. First Race at 7.30pm. Proceeds are in aid of Loughrea Musical Society’s production of Green Day’s American Idiot.

The Musical is scheduled to take place at Temperance Hall, Barrack Street, on April 19th, 20th & 22nd.

Darkness into Light LoughreaRegistration now open for Darkness Into Light Loughrea

In the early hours of Saturday 6th May 2017 people from Loughrea and the surrounding area will come out in force and in solidarity with Pieta House and those who have been touched by suicide and self-harm.

Departing Loughrea Fire Station, Barrack Street at 4.15am, the Darkness Into Light 5k run/jog/walk is an annual fundraiser for Pieta House, with more than 120,000 people taking part in various walks through Ireland, but 6th May will mark the first event to take place in Loughrea, County Galway.

Important Information
You must register online by April 27th to receive a T-shirt, and you must bring proof of registration (either printed or on your phone).
Please arrive 30 minutes before the start time. Please allow time for parking.
Each participant must have a torch for health and safety reasons.

Parking will be available in Main Street Car Park beside the Weavers, Barrack Street Car Park, McD’s Car Park, Station Road Car Park, as well as limited street parking.

Sod Turning Ceremony for Gaelscoil RiabhachSod Turning Ceremony for Gaelscoil Riabhach

It was a day of celebration at Gaelscoil Riabhach, Loughrea last Thursday on the occasion of its formal sod turning ceremony on the site of its new school build at Cosmona.

Tyler Mac an Bhaird and Mia Nic Giolla Phádraig (Naíonáin Bheaga), Ally Ní hEasnáin and Eamon Sellars (Rang 6), attended the event along with a group of founding parents, members of the Board of Management, principal Pól Mag Lionáin, and acting principal Dora Uí Challanáin.

ABM Design and Build will continue construction over the next 6 months, and the new 2 storey, 12 classroom building will be completed next October. The school’s fundraising committee, Cairde Gaelscoile, launched its ‘Buy a Brick’ campaign on the same day.

Concert in Loughrea LibraryLoughrea Music Club Concert

Sister and brother, Madeline and Padraig Connaughton will join together to perform a singing concert as the highlight of the Loughrea Music Club Concert, on Sunday, 19th March, at 7PM.

Accompanying Madeline and Padraig will be Tom Murphy on Volin, Laura Barrett on Cello and Philip Short on the Piano.

Taking place in Loughrea Library, on Church Street, the event is free, and all are welcome.

Art Exhibition by St Brigid’s College LoughreaArt Exhibition by St Brigid’s College Loughrea

St. Brigid`s College, Loughrea, art and design department in association with NUI Galway, School of Education have come together as part of the NUIG “Muscailt Arts Festival” to celebrate the work of some of our second level art and design students.

An Art Exhibition of over 70 paintings from students from St Brigid’s College is taking place from Tuesday 7th March until Thursday 16th March at the NUI Education Building, Nuns Island, Galway as part of the festival. All are welcome to visit and view our students work.
