The countdown to Loughrea’s St.Patrick’s Day is on, taking place on Friday, 17th March, with this years theme announced as “Swan Lake / Loch na hEala”.

Comórtas na bhFuinneog 2017 – Duais €200 agus Dealbh Comórtha

Bronnfar duais €200 agus dealbh comórtha ar an gnólacht/grúpa a chuireann an mhaisiú is fearr ar fhuinneog sa bhaile do Lá ‘le Pádraig. Déanfar an mholtóireacht ar Lá ‘le Pádraig ag baill de club óige an bhaile Spleodar agus ní mór go mbeadh Gaeilge feiceálach sa taispéantas.

A prize of €200 and a commemorative statue will be awarded to the business/ group which organises the best window decoration in the town for St. Patrick’s Day. The judging will take place on St. Patrick’s Day by members of the local Irish language youth club Spleodar and the Irish language should be prominent in the display.

Pléifidh an Dr Commins páirt Éamonn Ceannt, duine de shínitheoirí Fhorógra 1916, in Athbheochan na Gaeilge i dtús na 20ú hAoise. Ba sheinnteoir píb Uilleann agus Chogaidh araon é, chomh maith le bheith ina dhíograiseoir Gaeilge agus ina bhall tábhachtach den IRBÉ, agus bhí páirt lárnach aige i mbunú Chumann Píobairí Bhaile Átha Cliath agus ina n-iarrachtaí le stádas na n-uirlisí sin a athbhunú.

Dr Commins will explore the role of Éamonn Ceannt, a signatory of the 1916 Proclamation, in the Gaelic Revival of the early 20th century.  A player of both Uilleann and War pipes, as well as an Irish-language enthusiast and a key IRB member, Ceannt was central to the foundation of the Dublin Pipers’ Club and its attempts to restore the status of those instruments.
