Loughrea Culture Night 2025
Culture Night 2025 is fast approaching, bringing a nationwide celebration of culture, creativity, and the arts. Oíche Chultúir takes place each September as an all-island event, and best of all, every activity is completely FREE.
Culture Night will be celebrated on Friday, 19th September 2025, with a range of events taking place in and around Loughrea.
Having the Craic
Location: Loughrea Library, Church Street, Loughrea
Time: 8pm (approx.1.5 hours)
Entry: Free
You’re invited to join the “Craic” at Loughrea Library for a lively evening of entertainment, featuring the Seumas O’Kelly Players, the Baffle Poetry Society, and live music from the CEOs. Starting at 8pm, this showcase promises a night full of side-splitting drama, captivating poetry, and toe-tapping tunes to round off the evening with plenty of laughter, creativity, and community spirit.
Singing for the Soul
Location: Mount Carmel Monastery, Loughrea, H62 AV62
Time: 7pm – 9pm

The Galway County Integration Team and Mount Carmel Concerts invite you to a special workshop at the former Mount Carmel Monastery, led by renowned jazz vocalist and choir director, Róisín Mulliez.
This 2-hour communal singing workshop is open to participants of all levels. It offers a chance to explore the joy of group singing through fun vocal warm-ups, grounding exercises, and easy-to-learn songs from folk, bluegrass, and gospel traditions. No prior experience is required, just a willingness to join in and experience the uplifting power of song.
It’s sure to be a fun and inspiring event!

Silent Disco

South Galway Lakers Special Olympics Club invite you to their Silent Disco. We particularly welcome athletes who have audio sensitivity.

Set Dancing Ceilidh with Theresa and her Kilchreest Straw Boys
Location: The Village Inn, Kilchreest, H62 DX63
Time: 8pm
Age: 18+
The Kilchreest Straw Boys in association with Kilchreest Castledaly Community Development Group, are hosting a fun-filled night of set dancing, open to everyone! The evening will be led by music and dance teacher Theresa Reilly, who will start by teaching the basic steps of jigs and reels. Then, she’ll guide you through the Connemara Set, along with some well-known dances like Shoe the Donkey and Siege of Ennis. The 16-member Straw Boys team will be there to help get everyone onto the dance floor and make sure the energy stays high!
Local traditional musicians will provide the live music to keep the rhythm going. In true Straw Boys spirit, the group will be dressed in quirky, old-fashioned clothes, many of which will be sourced from local charity shops. Dance is all about fun, spontaneity, and connecting with Ireland’s rich cultural heritage, and this event is a great way to bring people together to celebrate and pass on these traditions to the local community.
It’s going to be a night of laughs, music, and lots of dancing!
Reeds & Remembrance: Harmonica Music and the Story of Loughrea’s Lost Harmonica Factory

Harmonica Music and the Story of Loughrea’s Lost Factory is a live music and heritage event combining performance with local history
Presented by master harmonica technician and musician Cathal Johnson, with acclaimed New Zealand guitarist Steve Simmonds and Czech violinist Petra Marková, the evening blends traditional Irish airs, folk, and blues with a cultural talk on the little-known story of the Hohner harmonica factory once based in Loughrea.
Open to all ages. No booking required.
