Welcome to Ballygweeha, the windiest town in Ireland!

East Galway Youth Theatre, just recently having affiliated with Youth Theatre Ireland, present Jane Madden’s exuberant satiric romp to Loughrea Library this Friday May 5th at 8.30pm. Tickets €5, can be got at the door.

The houses teeter over, the locals walk at an angle into the gusts and no-one’s ever properly lit a fire. Into Ballygweeha with a plan to harness the big wind comes Luc Torney, native son turned high-flying entrepreneur, glad-handing and greasing palms until the windmills whirl. But there is a strong scent of double-dealing, and Jacinta Nangle, the young town dissenter (betimes loaded with indignation and a bottle of Tesco gin), is having none of it. A cast of gurriers, property developers and mammies collide in this modern Irish satire on corruption and national character.

“This year, following the theatre’s ethos of supporting and training members in leadership and theatrical skills, we have four ex-members on a Young Leader’s programme. This programme involves attending training and workshops run by the national organisation. They have taken over the role of directing the production. The energy and excitement that they have brought to their roles as co-directors is evident throughout the show. Emma Murray unearthed the script and Delia Keane, Ellie Worcester and Cian McCarthy have collaborated to produce an incredibly humorous side-swipe at the shenanigans that abound in this fair Isle!” Daniel Cronin, Artistic Director, East Galway Youth Theatre.

LARCStop the Rot Campaign Loughrea Town HallLoughrea Town Hall ‘Stop the Rot’ Campaign

LARC (Loughrea Arts Recreation and Culture) have launched a campaign to ‘Stop the Rot’ at Loughrea Town Hall. The community group petition says “We we are now appealing to the Council to Stop the Rot of the building as a matter of urgency. The longer the building is left to dilapidate, the more expensive it will be to repair in the long run.
This is an important first step in making the Loughrea Town Hall a space for our community once again.”
