A two‐act Irish comedy set in rural Ireland. The play is full of farce, misunderstandings, eccentric characters, and humorous tension.
The entire story takes place in the kitchen of Mattie and Maggie Conway’s home on the day of their wedding anniversary.
Over the course of the play, bits of backstory emerge why Mattie and Maggie stopped speaking. Minnie is under stress (living in the house all her life) and tensions with Josephine and Andy add to the mix. Next door is a wake (Bartley O’Dowd’s) which adds a grim undertone and more opportunity for humour. There are other comic devices: misused handkerchief, crossword puzzles, old flames, mistaken identities, etc.
All these threads come together in the second act – surprises, confrontations, misunderstandings resolve (or at least reach a turning point). The vow renewal event acts as a kind of catalyst forcing everything into the open.
