Planning Permission Approved for New Padel Courts and Sports Development in Loughrea

Planning Permission Approved for New Padel Courts and Sports Development in Loughrea

Planning permission has been granted for a new sports development at the Fairgreen in Loughrea, following a decision by Galway County Council on 22 September 2026.

The proposed development will include three padel courts, as well as an indoor sauna, plunge pool, recovery facilities, a café and reformer Pilates.

Padel has become increasingly popular in recent years, and the new courts would give people in Loughrea and the surrounding areas another place to play the sport. The additional facilities would also provide options for fitness and recovery.

The development is planned for a site within Loughrea’s Architectural Conservation Area, beside two protected structures, the Old Barracks and the Mill Race.

Galway County Council has granted permission subject to 13 conditions. The planning application also included a Natura Impact Statement (NIS).

No construction timeline or opening date has been confirmed yet, but the approval marks an important step forward for the proposed development.
