Loughrea footpath upgrade works

Loughrea footpath upgrade works

Footpath upgrade works will commence at two locations in Loughrea Town from Wednesday, 1st March, until Friday, 14th April.

1. Corry’s Field

Location: Amenity public park located at Corry’s Field, Loughrea town.

Proposed Project: The project involves resurfacing and upgrading the amenity footpaths in Corry’s Field. This will include the installation of new pre-cast concrete kerbs adjacent to the existing kerb line with the necessary reinstatement of approximately 2,500m2 of a 40mm deep macadam Surface Course. The ground level adjacent to the pathway will be raised locally where required and regraded and reseeded to allow for ease of grass maintenance.

Contractor: Michael O’Malley Contractors Castlebar

Pedestrian management: The project works will be carried out in phases to keep the Park open to the public whenever possible. Phase 1 will require the path at the carpark entrance to be closed. Pedestrians will be directed to use the existing pedestrian crossing on the R380 Gort road and enter the park at the Coscorrig Cresent entrance.

Once Phase 1 is completed, all access will be through the Carpark entrance, but various other sections of pathways will then be closed off in the park at times until the works are fully completed.

2. Bride Street

Location: Bride Street/ Moore Street Loughrea Town

Proposed Project: The proposed project involves kerb laying and footpath replacement along with traffic calming and drainage works at the junction of Bride Street/ Moore Street for 140m extension.

Contractor: Michael O’Malley Contractors Castlebar

Traffic Management: A traffic management plan will be in place during the works. A stop-go system will be in operation, along with diversions of traffic and pedestrians at times. To minimize disruption, the contractor will endeavour to manage traffic flows around school drop-off and pick-up times.
