The Mount Carmel Concerts series, at Mount Carmel Monastery, Loughrea, gives you the chance to enjoy performances from some of Ireland’s best musicians and singers in the beautiful and historic Mount Carmel Chapel.

Tolu Makay

Tolü Makay is an Irish–Nigerian singer, songwriter and composer whose rich, soulful voice has become one of the most distinctive sounds in contemporary Irish music.
Born in Nigeria and raised in Ireland, Makay blends gospel, soul, folk and jazz influences to create music that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.
She first came to national attention with her powerful interpretation of “N17” with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, and has since collaborated with leading artists and ensembles across Ireland.
At Mount Carmel, the chapel’s beautiful natural acoustics will provide the perfect setting for her expressive voice, allowing every note and lyric to resonate with warmth and clarity.
Her performances celebrate identity, community and storytelling, offering audiences an uplifting and memorable musical experience.
Tappat Trio

Tappat Trio invites audiences on a musical journey through contrast and colour, where elegance meets exuberance and quiet reflection sits alongside moments of dazzling energy.
Featuring Thomas Murphy (violin), Adam Scheck (cello), and Philip Short (piano), the programme draws inspiration from the rich world of the piano trio, blending beloved masterpieces with lighter works full of charm, vitality, and character.
United by a love of storytelling through music, the trio explores the many shades between lightness and fire, creating an evening that is both engaging and deeply rewarding.
TEAGUE & JOYCE
LOST ON THE WANDER TOUR – Friday, 13th November 2026
Galway-based duo Teague & Joyce bring the songs from their acclaimed album Lost On The Wander to Mount Carmel, Loughrea, as part of the Lost On The Wander Tour.
Released in June 2026, Lost On The Wander is a nine-track collection of original songs blending folk, Americana, roots and Irish influences, showcasing the rich vocal harmonies and thoughtful songwriting that have become synonymous with Teague & Joyce.
Following a sold-out launch at Galway’s Mick Lally Theatre, the Lost On The Wander Tour has continued to gather momentum, with performances at theatres, arts festivals and folk clubs across Ireland.
Since its release, Lost On The Wander has received widespread airplay on RTÉ Radio 1, BBC Radio Ulster and radio stations across Ireland.
The album was selected as Album of the Week on both Charlie McGettigan’s Arts Show and The David Dee Moore Radio Show, while the single ‘Looking Up’ was chosen as Galway Bay FM’s Track of the Week.
Helen Hancock & the Triskel Ensemble

Galway-based soprano and recording artist Helen Hancock is celebrated for her expressive artistry and warm audience rapport. She formed the international string group, the Triskel Ensemble, in 2025.
This acclaimed ensemble has charmed audiences all across Ireland, selling out venues like Galway’s Mick Lally Theatre and Dublin’s Rathfarnham Castle. Returning to Mount Carmel, they will perform an eclectic mix of musical theatre, movie themes, classics, Christmas carols, and audience sing-alongs.
An international performer, Helen released her debut album TOGETHERNESS on the Navona Label in September 2025, streaming on Spotify and all major channels. Recorded in Berlin with pianist Paul Cibis, it followed a performance for Zeitgeist Irland 24, backed by Culture Ireland and the Irish Embassy. Her recent highlights include the Boyle Arts Festival and Galway Culture Night 2026. Helen also starred to great acclaim in the Caruso/Tóibín opera “Lady Gregory in America” at the 2025 Yeats-Gregory Gathering, produced by Lelia Doolan and partnered with The Abbey Theatre.
