Tribute Paid to Principal Seán Connolly as He Retires Following 23 Years at St. Brigid’s College
A warm and memorable morning was held at St. Brigid’s College, Loughrea, where Director of Schools Sinéad Farragher and Chief Executive David Leahy visited to extend their best wishes to Principal Seán Connolly on his retirement. The occasion marked the end of an extraordinary 23 years of service, including 19 remarkable years as Principal.
Seán began his career in the school as a teacher of Engineering, Technical Graphics, and LCVP. Throughout his early years, he became known not only for teaching subjects and skills, but for mentoring, guiding, and supporting generations of students as they progressed through their school journey.
During his tenure as Principal, Seán oversaw significant growth in the school’s population and played a central role in shaping St. Brigid’s College into the thriving, dynamic community it became. His leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment were instrumental in the continued development and success of the school.

Seán’s passion for sport, particularly hurling, created countless opportunities for students and helped foster a strong sporting culture within the school. He was also a steadfast supporter of the wide range of extra‑curricular activities offered at St. Brigid’s College, always recognising the importance of providing students with opportunities to grow, participate, and succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
His presence, positivity, and leadership will be greatly missed not only by the St. Brigid’s College community, but also by his fellow Principals and Deputy Principals across GRETB.
Warm and sincere wishes were extended to Seán for health, happiness, and fulfilment in the years ahead as he begins this next chapter of his life.
