Glanua raises over €28,000 for Galway Sick Kids Foundation at Annual Golf Classic

Loughrea-based Glanua, leaders in water, wastewater and bioresource solutions, has proudly presented a cheque for €28,285 to the Galway Sick Kids Foundation following the success of its annual Golf Classic. The company has raised over €100,000 for charitable causes in the last 4 years.

The funds were raised during the Glanua Golf Classic where over 80 golf enthusiasts, including Glanua employees, clients and supply chain partners travelled from across the country to support the fundraising initiative.

Volunteers from the Galway Sick Kids Foundation visited Glanua in Loughrea to formally accept the donation. The Foundation, which is run entirely by volunteers, fundraises to purchase vital medical equipment for the Paediatric Unit at University Hospital Galway. The funds raised by Glanua will be used to purchase specialist eye-screening equipment for premature babies, enabling early detection of abnormalities in the development of blood vessels in the eyes — a critical intervention in preventing long-term vision impairment and blindness.

Currently, premature babies in the region often need to be transferred by neonatal ambulance to Dublin for this essential screening. The new equipment will allow this care to be delivered locally at University Hospital Galway, significantly reducing stress for families and ensuring faster, more accessible treatment for the hospital’s most vulnerable patients.

Speaking on behalf of Glanua, Karl Zimmerer, Group Managing Director, said: “‘Galway Sick Kids Foundation plays a vital role in supporting children and families attending University Hospital Galway which is a cause very close to my heart. We are delighted that the funds raised through our annual Golf Classic will help deliver specialist equipment that will significantly enhance care for premature babies in the West of Ireland. This event wouldn’t be possible without the continued commitment of our employees, supply chain partners and clients, many of whom support us year after year. These initiatives are employee-led, driven by people who genuinely care about the communities in which we operate and who are committed to supporting local. Thanks to the combined efforts of our fundraising activities over the past four years, we have now raised more than €100,000 for a range of deserving causes.”

Denise Holland, Vice Chairperson at GSKF said “Galway Sick Kids Foundation wishes to thank the Glanua team for organising a golf classic where they raised an incredible €28k. We are incredibly grateful that we were the chosen charity to benefit. The proceeds will be put towards the purchase of much needed equipment at the paediatric unit at University Hospital Galway.

The Glanua Golf Classic has become one of the highlights of the company’s annual calendar, combining networking, sport and community spirit. Over the 4 years since it started, the event has raised more than €100,000 for a range of charitable causes, including Croí, the Irish Cancer Society, Friends of Mayo University Hospital, the Beaumont Hospital Foundation and Galway Hospice.

Glanua also acknowledged the exceptional support received from its supply chain partners, employees and Athenry Golf Club, all of whom played a crucial role in making the event such a success.
