Loughrea’s Ciagan Davoren wins Most Valuable Libero at U20 Men’s Championship

Ciagan Davoren captained the Irish U20 Volleyball team who played Andorra on Tuesday, 14 April, 4pm, at the National Sports Arena (CEV Small Countries Association U20 Men’s Championship from Tuesday, 12 – Thursday, 14 April).

Announcing on their Facebook page, Irish National Men’s Volleyball Squad said:

’17 years old and hailing from Loughrea, Ciagan plays Volleyball with Galway VC. He was introduced to the sport at primary level, but was majorly bit by the VB bug when he started in St. Brigids College, Loughrea. He finds the adrenaline and fast pace of the game to be the hook that has made him work hard to achieve the skillset required to play libero. A skilful football player, Ciagan has chosen Volleyball to be the sport that has it all.’

When asked what hopes he had for this weeks tournament he said….’I know these boys, I know what they are capable of, I’ve watched them train hard over the past few months, for most of this team this will be their first full international tournament and whilst we are a young inexperienced team I have faith they will do everyone proud.’

The Irish squad lost to Andorra, Ireland 0 Andorra 3 – 10-25, 19-25, 17-25. However, the Irish squad won their game against Northern Ireland on Wednesday, 13 April – Ireland 3 N. Ireland 2 (25-19, 17-25, 25-23, 29-31, 15-11). This was a great win for Ireland, first ever win for Ireland at Junior International competition level.

Speaking about Ciagan winning Most Valuable Libero, Irish National Men’s Volleyball Squad said ‘He demonstrated his sharp skills in defending through moments of breathtaking action.’
